I just recieved this letter. I am hoping it will help. Date: 98-08-08 09:38:49 EDT From: barkenco@webtv.net (Barbara Cole) To: Grandmab4@aol.com Ruth Ann, Here is all I have on Absolom COX. The first comes from the Andrea papers: Will of Edward COX...sg.26-9-1748...no wife listed...children: Thomas (Ex), Elijah (Ex), Absolom (Ex) and Jemima PARKER. This is from Currituck Co. NC. Also from Land Grants after the Revolution: 430 acres on Norris Creek, Abbeville, SC, to Absolom COX, 6-8-1810. Greenville Co.,SC census for 1830 shows Absolom COX,age 50-60. Finally this notation. " Absolom COX came to IL from Abbevlle,SC, in 1804 and established a Ferry across the Kaskaskia River about 6 miles above Evansville (IL).COX served as a Capt. of Militia during the period of Indian unrest in the territory. COX's Ferry remained for many years, an important crossing. Absolom had four sons: John, William, Thomas, and Absolom." This from Randolph Co.,IL. __________________________________ From , " A History of COX Pioneers of Posey Co.,IN, by Rev. John E. COX " 1931. Absolom COX was one of 8 or 9 COX pioneers who came to this region by 1830. By wagon, across the Cumberland Mts., following the formerly " Wilderness Trail", marked by Daniel Boone. ( The others were: "Double Head" John COX and his brother Jonathan: "General" Joseph COX; "Laughing" John L. COX; Furneyford COX; Jesse COX and his brother Jonathan and William COX.) _________________________________ Absolom is also listed in the following places: 1. Tax List 1810 Hawkins Co.,TN 2. Census 1830 Greenville, SC 3. Census 1820 Posey Co.,IN 4. 1830 Federal Census shows 3 Absoloms in IN. Floyd Co., Vigo Co., and Posey Co. 5. 1840 Federal Census shows only two: 1 in Floyd Co. and 1 in Monroe Co. 6. Marriage to Nancy ALLISON 24-4-1856, Posey Co. In. ______________________________ That's about it. I did have another marriage, but can't find the data. As near as I can figure there were at least 2 Absoloms ,if not more. I have some other children too, but don't know where I got them. still checking for you. Barbara.
